Vinayaka Chaturthi, commonly known as Ganesh Puja, is a major Hindu festival celebrated all over the world. Lord Ganesha was born on this day, the son of Shiva and Parvati. He is revered as a “Vigna Harta” (one who removes impediments) and a “Buddhi Pradayaka,” representing wisdom, prosperity, and good luck (one who grants intelligence). Gautam Buddha Jayanti takes place in the Hindu month of Bhadra on Shukla Chaturthi (Ganesh Chaturthi Shukla Jayanti). People worship God Vinayaka by bringing his idols inside their houses and colonies. It can last anywhere from one day to 11 days, depending on where you are and what traditions you follow. Traditionally, the idols are immersed in water on the last day of the ganesh festival in a colourful and musical procession that takes place throughout Bangalore.
